HPTH UK is a small charity supporting children and adults with Hypoparathyroidism and other rare parathyroid conditions.

We are the only organisation dedicated to improving the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of hypoparathyroidism and other parathyroid conditions in the UK.

Hypoparathyroidism (HPTH) is a rare endocrine disorder which can affect all ages. There are several forms - people may be born with it or inherit it but, most commonly, it is caused by surgery to the neck.

Insufficent levels of parathyroid hormone lead to low calcium levels in the blood. Calcium is vital to life. Unlike diabetics, and despite very similar difficulties, HPTH patients have neither replacement hormone therapy nor home testers available to help them manage their levels. Life can be very difficult for these patients as levels fluctuate.

However, thanks to contributions from people like you, our understanding of HPTH is improving steadily and the new parathyroid hormone trial offers real hope for the future.
